Job Description

Responsibilities:

Coordination: 

  • Receives and evaluates new donor referrals for transplant, research and/or teaching. 
  • Plans tissue recovery (in-situ vs whole globe) and processing (cornea vs sclera). 
  • Coordinates casual on-call staff processing activities. 
  • Coordinates distribution of import and export of tissue. 

    • Donor and Tissue Suitability Determination: 

  • Obtains and reviews information related to donor medical and social history. 
  • Performs donor screening evaluation, initial suitability determination for recovery and acceptance of donor tissue for transplant, research and teaching purposes. 

    • Tissue Processing: 

  • Logs donated eyes and import corneas. 
  • Labels, prepares and sends blood samples for testing. 
  • Processes eyes, ocular tissue, amniotic membrane and other donated human tissue for transplantation using aseptic techniques.
