Municipal Prosecutor

Responsible for conducting prosecutions and appeals in the Ontario Court of Justice for offences under provincial statutes, selected federal statutes and municipal by‑laws.

General Duties

1. Conduct prosecutions (first attendance, pre‑trials, trials, pre‑appeals, appeals) by evaluating charges, reviewing evidence, determining appropriate actions and preparing legal documents.
2. Conduct disclosures, respond to motions under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other pre‑trial proceedings.
3. Review statements of witnesses, interview and prepare expert and civilian witnesses.
4. Prepare and direct the preparation/serving of related court documents.
5. Negotiate settlements when required.
6. Present oral and written legal arguments in the Ontario Court of Justice.
